Do You Want To Know The Best Anti Ageing Skin Care Advice?

By June 18, 2015No Comments

What is skin? The skin is the largest organ of the body, totalling about 20 square feet – depending on the size of the person, of course! The skin protects us, helps regulate body temperature, and permits the sensations of touch and temperature. It is made up of three layers:

  • The epidermis, which is the most external layer, provides a waterproof barrier and creates individual skin tone.
  • The dermis, which resides just below the epidermis, contains tough connective tissue, hair follicles and sweat glands.
  • The deepest layer, which is made of fat and connective tissue.

For those of you who came to our most recent Workshop you will have learnt the “do’s & don’ts” for your skin. We covered everything you need to know and were lucky enough to be joined by Maria Winlow, Dermalogica Skin Specialist from The Perrymount Clinic in Haywards Heath who offered FREE Anti Aging Skin Care Advice to all attendees! I’ve always known that massage and exercise have been good for your skin but it is only since being immersed in this industry that I have been aware of just how much. It goes without saying that nutrition plays a massive part also. What you put in your body is so often reflected in your skin. We need many antioxidants to support us on a day-to-day basis. The majority of these going to your organs and immune system and then IF there is anything left, your skin, hair and nails will benefit from them too. So this is why I ask you to have so many more pieces of vegetables these days, so we support your immune system and also have enough vitamins and minerals to have you glowing!
Omega 3s are an essential nutrient for keeping the outermost layer of the skin strong and intact so that external toxins and pollutants are kept out. The best sources of this nutrient are salmon, sardines, eggs and walnuts.
The vitamins vital for good skin health are Vitamin A, C, E and B. Vitamin A assists in delaying the aging process; Vitamin B helps the pigmentation of your skin especially reducing any redness. Vitamin C is a fantastic all rounder, making the skin appear brighter and younger; you also can’t take too much vitamin C as the body will just expel what it doesn’t need! Finally Vitamin E is essential for moisture…and so is water!
Yes, I am yet again harping on about water, but it is incredibly necessary in the quest for good skin. Again, the organs take all the water first and then if there is enough left over for your skin then you will look better, less lined and far less dry or dehydrated.
If eating well is not motivation enough, the benefits of exercise are also multiple. When exercising be sure to take better care of your skincare regime though, making sure you remove make-up beforehand where possible and washing your face not only once but twice that evening. The first time to get rid of the surface dirt and then to get down into the deeper layers of the skin to assist with skin renewal and avoid blemishes!
When you exercise you regulate the levels of cortisol in your body. Cortisol is a stress related hormone and is linked to excess weight gain, predominantly around the middle. Many of our clients come to us with aesthetic reasons in mind but many don’t realise the benefits exercise has on managing a stressful lifestyle. Cortisol causes the collagen in the skin to break down so the skin appears more wrinkled and saggy. So an excess of it in the body is literally ageing!
In fact regular exercise directly supports the production of collagen, which will boost the protein in the skin keeping it firm, supple and elastic. Regular exercise also boosts your circulation, which brings more blood flow to the surface of your skin, keeping it nourished and helping to draw toxins out of the body.
Those of you who have had a massage with me will know some of the ‘joys’ and benefits already, but by having regular massages you should notice a benefit in the tone of your skin too. Massage is proven to help the appearance of skin as it increases sebum production. Not only does this improve the skin’s suppleness but it will also help the resistance to infection. Bringing the blood to the surface, as with exercise too, will improve the colour of the skin and the production of sweat from the sweat glands will help with the removal of those toxins we all build up.
Coming for a massage is great but don’t just wait for your monthly massage, be sure to use massage in your daily skin care; combined with all of the above, you will have great skin for the summer that you will be keen to show off!
Have you ever considered that YOUR skin could be greatly improved by implementing small changes to your lifestyle? Regular exercise (regardless of the intensity initially), stress relief solutions, learning and understanding how the food you eat effects your body and having the support of a Nutritional Expert who can help you to build your own personalised nutrition plan, using the right products and treatments on your skin specific to your own skin type and current needs.
